A Quick Diversion:

The Actual News:

Hey so one of our partners, Matoba Design—which you might remember as the guy who made the most comprehensive video about the lost Pokémon TCG set Jamboree (see video below)—is looking for a new personal assistant… and that person might be you!

To give a bit of background: Matoba Design—a hybrid graphic design and detective agency based in Los Angeles, CA—is looking to hire a full-time personal assistant. If you’re creative, reliable, and don’t mind doing a bit of everything (including some design or research work), this might be the gig for you. Honestly, I would take the job myself but circumstances prevented me from taking it. However, I feel confident with Matoba Design that I was more than happy to share the job offer here on PA!.

Part of the fun will be helping find various holy grails of not just Pokémon history, but other card games, anime, and other popular franchises. You can see a small collection of the items Matoba Design has found on his Instagram.

The Role:
Roughly 75% personal assistant, 25% flexible tasks (graphic design and/or investigative research). This means one day might involve picking up groceries or cleaning the office, and the next might involve helping mock up a movie logo or chasing down research leads for a case.

Requirements:

  • Must be located in the Los Angeles area
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Full-time, salaried role (paid bi-weekly)
  • Interview + resume required (remote interviews okay)
  • Knowledge of entertainment, gaming, and collecting culture is a must

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Graphic design experience (especially in Adobe Creative Suite; if you already make custom Pokémon TCG cards, then you’re already there!)
  • General research or investigative skills

Perks:

  • Vacation time available on request
  • Pay starts at twice minimum wage, with room based on experience
  • You’ll be working in an environment that’s part design studio, part detective agency, and get a chance to see some unique items than few may ever get to encounter!
