In Pokémon Sun & Moon, we got to visit the Alolan Region which—surprisingly—also has its own language and script! But not enough was seen in the games, and it was hard to pull screenshots from the games, so it wasn’t as easy to decipher and understand like we can with the other scripts.

That said, during the intro of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, we saw a scene where the class was looking over some Alolan text about the Regular and Alolan forms of Raichu… and something interesting was discovered!

Classroom scene where some Alolan text is seen alongside Galarian/Paldean text, and some icons of Regular and Alolan Raichu are seen near them.

Over at the PA! Discord’s Language Institute channel, ElementsnStuff was able to work out that the text is a simple cypher which says:

ALOLAN RAICHU
REGIONAL VARIANT
ALTAR OF THE SUNNE
LAND RICH IN NATUR
(Yes, the word “NATUR” is cut off like that.)

Pretty nifty! This then makes me wonder if some of the other Alolan text fits this cypher? It didn’t seem like it when we tried, but who knows?

In the mean time, feel free to download ElementsnStuff’s Alolan font!
