A Quick Diversion:

The Actual News:

Alas, with the end of the McDonald’s Pokémon Promotion (at least in my neighborhood), I think it’s a nice time to look back upon it and share my overall thoughts about it. But since I’m lazy and I gotta wake up early in the morning, I’m actually gonna do none of that. HAH! Lol, naw, I can’t do that to you guys. Actually, I do want to share a couple minor things with you.

First off, earlier I updated said McDonald’s Promo page with one minor tidbit: namely where every card actually came from. Of course the McDonald’s Promo didn’t just simply regurgitate those cards from those sets… instead, they added cute little “Pokémon 25” symbols onto them (as well as McDonald’s 2021 set icons and numbers). Here’s the original cards:

And here’s their McDonald’s counterparts:

So at least by getting these cards, you can at least get a version of them which are slightly more rarer than simply getting one of their original versions.

But I got to thinking… if they had the time to add little “Pokémon 25” icons to the cards, surely they could also actually UPDATE the cards so they fit the current “Sword/Shield” aesthetic, right?? Well, that’s where I come in! Yes, Nick15, the World’s TOP TEN Pokémon TCG faker five years in a row (1999-2004) will… do the work they were supposed to do, for free. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it, right?

Anyways, I’ve recreated TWO of the cards below! Can you guess which ones I did??

That’s right: Charmander and Squirtle!

OK you got me: it’s Bulbasaur and Treecko. Again, I always thought the fact that they didn’t make ALL of the cards of the McD 2021 Set use the SwSh blanks was odd and just a tad slightly… well, I won’t call it lazy, but I do think they could’ve done a better job of it. But that’s OK, I guess that’s why us fakers exist, right? We can make all the cards that no one else will. Now I’ve only just made two cards so far… but the other 23 will come very soon. As mentioned before, I’ve wanted to do a sort of “warm up exercise” before I actually get started on some REAL faking… so this is all just a lead-up to the main events.

Now one minor caviet here about these McDonald’s fakes: while I’ve always been focused on authenticity, I’m also not a big fan of unauthorized sales of fakes, at least to people who don’t realize they’re buying a fake card. It’s something else if they DO know they’re buying a fake… but for this set where there might be some potential confusion, I wanted to make sure that was all nipped in the bud. Therefore, I made sure to have the “regulation mark” be a “Z”, which IIRC isn’t anything that is currently in use. I’ve also left aschefield’s name on the blanks. Hopefully anyone who might think that these are the real deal can see that and realize that they’re just a fun fan-made version.

And there we are! Sorry I only made two fakes so far… again, I’m being a bit lazy today. Sue me.
