Oh boy! So, yesterday I was bored, and so I decided to rip the type symbols which appears in Pokémon Sword/Shield, and then I turned them into site emoticons. Check it out!

  • :LWP :LTD :LDF
  • :SWY :STG :SDA

Pretty nifty, huh? If you want to find out how to use the emoticons in the comments yourself, or if you just want to take a look at all the different type emoticons I made, head on over to the PA! Emoticon Guide page.

Now as for those of you who want to know about the colors used in the types... well, read on!

Galar Alphabet Character Frequency Update

By nick15 [December 6, 2019 - 17:13]

Heyo! It's been a while since I last updated about the Galar Alphabet. Mostly because I have a big update due, and I'm piecing together a script for a video about it. But in the mean time, I have been writing down as many instances of Galarian text I can find, and I thought I'd do a new character frequency analysis.

But first, let's cover some important prefaces:

  • I updated the Galarian Word List page with a bunch of new words I found, some big, some small... but it was this update that prompted me to do this character frequency update.
    • It goes without saying, but I still have a ways to go with getting this anywhere as complete as I'd like.
  • One of the things I've also done is separate Galar characters between "uppercase" and "lowercase" forms, because it's very clear that "lowercase" characters are used in specific instances, such as lists or menus, while normal signs and names use "uppercase" characters exclusively (or at least DON'T use "lowercase" characters).
  • There is also clear patterns between different artists working with Galarian text. Some of them actually put effort into making words recognizable, or at least make it clear that the words they are creating are supposed to be something... while other artists just don't give a crap and literally copy-and-paste letters to fill space.
    • Maybe the best example of an artist that clearly didn't care was the one who drew up the text for the red "Trainer Tips" sign: so much of it was copy-and-pasted, like how :GC :G8 :G9 :GS :GV :G_ is used multiple times. There is ALSO a "new" character which places :G0 over :G^ which is not used ANYWHERE else, but in turn is seen ONLY around the letters :GX :GJ :GY .
    • Incidentally, it's for this reason that I think the artist who did the "Trainer Tips" sign was the same who did the "Rose Lift" text; I have pictures of this below.
  • I had figured that different artists had different preferences, so I guess one thing I'll need to do is figure out if I could even separate them out, or at least remove from any future analysis any pieces of text that are OBVIOUSLY made by those lazy artists. But then again, that means having to pick and choose, and... bleh. Whatever. None of this affects the following analysis, however.

Before I get to the graphs, lemme share the examples of the lazy artist and how they just duplicated their letters, even creating a "new letter" in the process.

OK at this point, this post needs to be put under a cut, so if you want to read more, just click below!

Pokemon Aaah! The Discord Server, The Link

Hey everyone! Now that my best friend Jimmy C., aka Teslalyte (aka the former "MegaX") is back on board, one of the first things he helped me out with was setting up an official Discord server for the site. Pretty nifty, huh? If you wanna come check us out, here's an invite link for you:

I'll also be sticking a link in the sidebar, and any other more convenient locations. And I'll be adding a Discord chat box somewhere on the site too, at least when I update the WordPress theme.

Right now signing up is free, but who knows what might happen later on down the road! So join today, and we'll see you there!

Small Update Problem

Hey y'all; just a quick notice that at some point in the near future I may need to take some time to do a bit of site tweaking. This WordPress theme is one that I built upon another theme from a long time ago, and I guess some elements of it are outdated or otherwise bad, and it's screwing up WordPress a little bit. I dunno what is wrong with it specifically, so I might just have to make a new theme from scratch, albeit with all the elements of this current theme... basically an "under-the-hood" clean up. Joy.

Anyways, if the site goes down or acts freaky, that's what's going on. Just FYI!

The Flags of Pokemon Regions

By nick15 [December 1, 2019 - 02:08]

Happy December Everyone! (oh chriiiist it's almost 2020)

Anyways, here's a bit of artsy-fartsy for you this Sunday: THE FLAGS OF POKEMON REGIONS!

Its something I kicked together a while back, but I'm sharing it with you guys now. It's like, each region of Pokemon is supposed to be it's own distinct place, right? But how come we don't see much of anything concerning their symbols or other regional identities? Not even a flag!

So I decided to take the time to think about what a flag for each Pokemon region might look like. Mind you, I'm doing it less from the perspective of someone within the world of Pokemon (and thus don't realize they're in a video game) as much as designing something that us fans could enjoy.

And so I hope you enjoy them! PS: you can also find them in the sidebar under "Pokemon Regional Symbols"; my plan is to expand that section to cover more than just flags... so stuff like sports teams or coat of arms, etc. I mean, imagine wearing a football kit from the "Motostoke Engine FC"! I hope to get something like that out to other Pokemon fans in due time!
